“Looking to this weekend's
games”
Here’s a preview for this weekend's matches in the Google
Pixel Women's Bundesliga:
SV
Werder Bremen vs. Bayer 04 Leverkusen (Saturday, October
12, 2024, 2:00 p.m.)
This game could have significant implications for both
teams. Bayer Leverkusen, currently in 3rd place with 13
points, is unbeaten and just two points behind Bayern
Munich. A win could keep them in contention at the top of
the table, especially if the leaders falter. Leverkusen has
been in strong form and will look to maintain their
momentum. Werder Bremen, on the other hand, is languishing
in 9th place with just 4 points. A victory would provide a
crucial boost, moving them away from the relegation zone and
giving them a much-needed confidence boost. Given their
contrasting positions, Leverkusen is the favorite, but
Bremen will be motivated to pull off an upset at home.
VfL Wolfsburg vs. Bayern
Munich (Saturday, October 12, 2024, 5:45 p.m.)
This clash of titans could be the highlight of the weekend.
Bayern Munich leads the table with a perfect 15 points, but
Wolfsburg isn’t far behind, sitting in 4th with 10 points. A
win for Wolfsburg could tighten the race at the top,
potentially reducing Bayern’s lead if other results go their
way. Wolfsburg’s strong attack, led by seasoned players,
will challenge Bayern’s solid defense, which has allowed
only three goals all season. Meanwhile, Bayern’s own
prolific scoring ability, with 18 goals, makes them a
formidable opponent. This match will likely be fiercely
contested and could shape the season’s narrative for both
teams.
1. FC Köln vs. TSG
Hoffenheim (Sunday, October 13, 2024, 2:00 p.m.)
1. FC Köln has had a rough start, currently sitting in 11th
place with just 1 point. They desperately need a win to
avoid further sinking into the relegation zone. Hoffenheim,
placed 8th with 6 points, has also had an uneven season but
is in a better position. A win for Hoffenheim could push
them toward the top half of the table, while Köln is hoping
for their first victory of the season. Both teams will be
eager to capitalize on the opportunity to climb, but Köln
will especially look to turn around their season under the
home crowd’s support.
RB Leipzig vs. FC Carl
Zeiss Jena (Sunday, October 13, 2024, 6:30 p.m.)
This mid-table battle sees Leipzig, currently in 6th place
with 9 points, hosting Carl Zeiss Jena, who are struggling
in 10th place with only 1 point. Leipzig’s recent form has
been inconsistent, but a win could solidify their place in
the top half and potentially put them in reach of the upper
spots if other results favor them. For Carl Zeiss Jena, a
win would break their poor run and give them a critical
morale boost. Leipzig, however, is the clear favorite given
their higher scoring capability and stronger defensive
record.
Eintracht
Frankfurt vs. SC Freiburg (Monday, October 14, 2024,
6:00 p.m.)
Second-placed Eintracht Frankfurt has 13 points, just two
behind Bayern Munich, and will look to keep up the pressure
on the leaders with a win over Freiburg. Freiburg, currently
in 5th place with 10 points, is also having a strong season
and could potentially leapfrog Frankfurt with a win. This
match promises to be a close affair, with both teams
boasting solid defenses and capable attacks. Frankfurt’s
home advantage could be decisive, but Freiburg’s determined
play this season means they won’t go down without a fight.
Recap of Turbine Potsdam’s Loss
In the only match played so far in the 6th round, Turbine
Potsdam lost 0-3 at home to SGS Essen. Despite the debut of
new coach Kurt Russ, Potsdam’s struggles continued.
Injuries
and absences have plagued the team, and they remain without
a point or goal this season. Essen’s double-strike in the
first half, led by Natasha Kowalski’s playmaking, secured
them their second win of the season, moving them to 7th
place with 7 points. Potsdam is still at the bottom and
needs a turnaround soon to avoid falling too far behind in
the relegation battle.
These matches should offer an exciting weekend of action in
the Frauen-Bundesliga, with top teams jostling for position
and struggling sides battling to turn their fortunes around.
